[obligatory not a doctor disclaimer] I don't think UTIs are contagious, but maybe there are some conditions that favor them (diapers that don't get changed often enough compounded by filthy playing conditions perhaps?) that could be a problem at a daycare. If so, I'm glad Ellie's not at the same one, too. I'm sorry for your friend and her triplets. UTIs suck, as would two weeks in a hospital.
