Update

So, I'm sitting outside the local coffee shop in Jemez Springs headed tobthe oral surgeon.

Quick update- Ellie was in the hospital for almost a week and got out last Friday. Her swelling from the abscess is gone but we still needed to resolve the tooth situation. We flew to Albuquerque on Wednesday (arriving at 1am and the stupid TSA people felt the need to open all Ellies get well cards.). Anyway, yesterday Ellie saw the pediatric dentist who reconmended that an oral surgeon take out her two front teeth. So, we are our way to do that this morning. After that, we drive to Colo. Springs to see the housing and get the kids signed up and on the waiting list for daycare. Then back to NM on Sunday morning.

I'm a bit upset about her losing her teeth but I really liked the dentist and trust his judgment. Okay, got to get driving again.

Oh, damn those TSA agents! How frustrating!

Good luck today. Much love and prayers and hugs to Ellie.

They opened her get-well cards? That's just sad. I hope they didn't decide there were secret messages in her coloring books.

I had seven teeth pulled when I was 7-8 because they hoped it would help my permanent teeth come in straighter. (This plan did not work.) After a few years, the only thing I remembered about it was milkshakes and the fact that the tooth fairy had stiffed me by only giving me the normal amount for one tooth.

We have a neighbor who had to have her two front teeth pulled at some point prior to last summer - she's just turned 6 and the new ones still aren't in yet, but honestly, it never occurred to me that they'd been pulled (until I asked, did you just lose a tooth?). Ellie's almost old enough that missing teeth are the norm, so I wouldn't worry about her looking weird. Or at least any weirder than anyone else's kid.
