Practical tip: when Dillo was too small to be trusted to latch on, I took to keeping a flashlight behind the bed (within arm's reach). I'd set it shining against the wall and it shed enough light to get him latched on, but not so much that it woke the hell out of us all. I didn't get out of bed to nurse him even before he could nurse lying down - I'd scooch up and sit against the wall with a pillow, then scooch down again when we were done. (Though mostly Casper and mr. flea were both in Casper's bed, so it was just me and the Dillo). I was shocked at how fast he was able to nurse lying down - i'd say by about a month, whereas I couldn't figure it out until 4 mos or so with Casper.
When I saw baby Conrad in the hospital yesterday he was crying like the bleat of a lamb. It is a pitiful thing, the newborn cry. Though I think both of mine were lusty yellers even early - or maybe I just recall it that way!
