Social Awkwardness

We have been invited to people's house tonight. I like them - they are about our age but their kids are teenagers. I"m not exactly sure what prompted the invitation but Joe said they mentioned something about "bring a playpen for the kids." Joe also said they mentioned Jello shots and mojitos.

I'm just not feeling good about going tonight. I like them but I know they have some crazy drinking parties. While I have no problem with that, and might like to do it myself in the future, I'm nursing my baby AND I'm not crazy about taking my kids to a party where there are adults drinking a lot. Assuming other people are there, all their friends live practically next door and their kids are old enough that they generally stay home for these parties.

Maybe I'm a big curmudgeon but we don't even have a pack n play and I don't see Frisco sleeping in one even if we did. Nor do I see my kids falling asleep without a lot of involvement from me. I guess I'm jsut not crazy about taking my kids somewhere where I feel like they arne't exactly welcome.

Hm. It sounds like it's less a case of your kids not being welcome as it is a not so kid-friendly situation in the first place. They're trying to include you, and it's nice that they like you guys and want you to come over, but I think if I were you I would just thank them for the invite and say you'd love to get together some other time when you have time to get a sitter.
