Today was my first day at the gym here in town. I signed up with a friend, but friend's daughter was sick, so I went alone. I was expecting a sort of Queer as Folk type experience - chatting with my friends (well, friend) while we worked out. It wasn't as fun as it always looks on TV, but I do feel good that I went.

ION, one of my dogs, Toby, sprained or pulled something in one of his front paws on Sunday. He's been holding the paw up in the air and not walking on it every since. The vet says nothing is broken and he should get better soon. He looks so pathetic and cute hopping around on three paws that I want to laugh, but then I feel bad because he's obviously in pain and really only moves around to get food and go out. Hopefully, he will heal soon.

I hope it heals without a problem. But you should be prepared for the "sympathy limp". Cats and dogs are much more creatures of habit than we often realise. If your pup gets sympathy and attention because he's limping, he may continue to limp after his injury heals. If the vet says he's okay and he still continues to limp? You might try bandaging the uninjured paw. He'll have to chose between limping on the "new injury" and the old one. Once he's walking normally on the healed paw, you can take the bandage off.

I'm not making this stuff up. Happens all the time. Fast heal-ma to your canine buddy.

Actually, I think I've heard of this before. We are going back for a follow-up vet appt. on Monday. The "orthopedic vet" is there on those days and he's going to make sure nothing major is wrong with his joint. After that, I'll guess we'll have to watch him - I can see him wanting the extra attention.
