BPA

I have several ziploc bags full of Avent and Playtex bottles and sippy cups. We have never used the bottles but Ellie did use the sippy cups. I'm thinking about just tossing them due to BPA concerns but it also feels really wasteful. Several of the bottles are still in their original packaging.

Am I being wasteful or responsible?

Return the ones in their packaging, recycle the others. 7 is still recyclable, right?

yes, I think so. It's amazing - I have an entire kitchen size garbage bag full of baby bottles and sippy cups.

Steph, is there a pregnancy resource center or shelter near you? You could totally take the stuff there, and it would be SO appreciated.

That was my initial thought - especially for the stuff that has never been used. But with the concerns about BPA (potentially causing early puberty and cancer), I feel a bit like one of those L&O episodes where Wal-Mart won't sell poison toothpaste but instead gives it to old people.

Ok. Yeah. I should have been more specific. I agree with sowilo, recycle the used stuff. Absolutely! Everything else...the new, the clothes, would be greatly appreciated by any organization that helps single or homeless moms.

A lot of stores in Canada have just removed them from the shelves, because the risk is supposed to be the greatest to infants and toddlers. I think I would vote against donating them elsewhere.

That said, it sounds like they don't really know what to do with all this plastic now.

My evil secret? We still use the Avent bottles with Ivy because, when she was a newborn, we tried about four nipples and they were the only ones she could understand. We've tried others since to get her off the BPA, but she just gives us this LOOK like, "Why are you trying to starve me?". So if she gets cancer in 50 years, I can blame myself.

If I wasn't in that position, I'd toss them.
