Looong Day
Feb. 28th, 2005 05:54 pmActually, I think today was a normal day for most people, but I am exhausted. With all the home decorating yesterday, I didn't get to take my usual nap. And, as it always goes with me, the minute I didn't get enough sleep, I started coming down with a cold. I feel like one big germ.
I'm so exhausted feeling and I actually did take a nap today. One of the reasons I'm so tired is that I finally started my immigration law volunteer position. I'm doing this because I think it will help me network my way into a job once I'm ready to start looking, but since it's totally volunteer, I had no idea what to expect and given how crappy I felt, I really didn't want to go.
But, it was so cool and totally worth it. Of course, I can't go into details, but I basically got handed an affirmative asylum case today. The family appears to have a genuine claim of persecution (always more motivating to work for someone who you think really deserves what they are seeking) and they are from a part of the world I'm totally unfamiliar with. One of my frustrations since I moved to NC was feeling so out of touch with real legal work. It feels really good to be helping real people again.
