On Hold

We were going to move back onto Ft. Buchanan today but it turns out that, once again, they do not have room for us over the weekend. (Aside: I don't understand this. That place is totally dead all.the.time. Plus, as moving active duty people, we have first priority. They are supposed to have two rooms that allow pets but they are supposedly booked. I haven't seen a single dog there. It makes me totally angry because I'm convinced there is some sort of fraud going on which I would not care about except that we have nowhere to stay.) So, here are our options:

1. Stay here at the Condado. It's nice here and the bed is comfortable, but it's as expensive as hell. ($20 cheeseburger yesterday) Also, anywhere within a reasonable distance is similarly overpriced. The army does provide us with a generous allowance for food, but I'm already tired of eating out. Plus, the dogs can not stay with us here. Ray can watch them for a while, but a month is a lot to ask. (Oh, I forgot to say that our house will be ready for us July 7th. So we need a place to stay until then).

2. Stay on Buchanan during the week and come here for the weekends or maybe travel around PR for the weekends. This option is appealing to me but it doesn't solve the dog problem. Also, it means that we have to pack up all of our crap every Friday, leave it somewhere, and then unpack on Monday.

3. Stay somewhere off-post. I don't know how this would work or where it would be. Who lets you rent for a month? Also, would they let us have the dogs?

4. The ROTC department has some house on Buchanan that they use periodically. It's supposed to be full of boxes, etc and has no furniture. Housing would deliver furniture to us but if they do that, we lose the rather generous "hotel" benefit. This would solve the dog problem however. About the money, it's not that I'm greedy, but I feel like we would be forced to live somewhere with almost nothing and that money would help cover the added expenses of making the place livable, even if only for a month.

I've now reached the part where I hate the move. I totally should have stayed at my parents for a month or something like that. I mean, the pool is great but you can only spend so much time there before it gets old. All I want is one place where we can stay, unpack our clothes and be comfortable for 3-4 weeks until our house is ready. I know I sound whiny, but I want to go home, only I don't have one right now.

eta: Also, thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes for Ellie. They helped make the day great.
