Before Ellie, my breasts were never a subject of conversation. They were small and never in the way. My how things have changed...

For the last 4 nights, Ellie has been sleeping 4-5 hours at night. I've been nursing before bed, once in the night, and right away when I get up. It's been wonderful.

But now I'm afraid it may have contributed to a breast infection. Part of the big breast that she likes so much was very tender yesterday. I thought it may have been from pumping because I pumped before I went to the dentist yesterday afternoon. Then last night, I started feeling sort of bad. I was feeling exhausted (even though I've been sleeping), achy, freezing, eyes burning, bad headache, and so on. And I had a fever, which I never have. Thankfully, my mom took Ellie for me and just woke me up to feed her.

This morning, the fever is mostly gone, but I still feel tired and achy. And one portion of my sore breast is now rather red. My LLL book says apply heat, relax, and nurse. I'm so glad I have nothing I have to do today. I have my bar review books next to me on one side, Ellie on the other, and I plan on alternating between the two most of the day.

I hope the boob is feeling better soon, but I'm also commenting because I've been meaning to say that you're the only person I've ever known who will have cozy warm memories of bar review!

Sounds like mastitis, but a mild one. Your prescription sounds right to me. Keep an eye on yourself, though, and if you don't keep feeling better or start feeling worse again, you may need antibiotics.

This page has good info in my opinion: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/2/T022200.asp

That was a great page with lots of good info. I have his baby book, but I hadn't seen the website before. Also, definitely mastitis, but not too bad.

Ow? And good grief. I've heard so many awful things now, about giving birth, and nursing, that I"m like "how the hell did people ever do it, back in teh day??". I'm so impressed by you and how hard you're working!!
