Dodged a Bullet

Joe's headquarters got a tasking (an order for an individual) for a male officer of Joe's rank and branch to deploy to Iraq next month. Were it not for our Puerto Rico assignment, Joe would be on his way back next month for another year.

I could have sworn I just heard Rumsfeld say the Army is not stretched too thin. It makes me so angry. I'm so glad Joe isn't going, but someone else will and chances are that person has been to Iraq before as well. There just aren't enough soldiers for this stupid war.

The Army has been hounding my SIL, threatening her with all sorts of dire things if she doesn't re-up. Thing is, they appear to be in the complete wrong (hell, she's still fighting for her GI bill and chasing her medical records all over the country) so she's just been using the calls to vent everyday spleen. D is being a brat? Army calls, bitch them out. The traffic bad? Save it up for the army's call.

Oh Steph--that makes me so furious. Let Rumsfield spend a few years in a war zone and see how "stretched" he feels...grrrrr.
