Taxes, yay?
Jan. 30th, 2006 07:32 amThere is a very real possibility that we might be getting over 5K back in taxes. (This is due to Joe being deployed most of last year and helped along by Ellie's birth.) I'm not sure why getting *your own* money back from the government always feels like such a gift but it does. That, plus the unexpected escrow refund check that is coming has me feeling positively rich. (Except none of it is actually here yet.) Anyway, I did our taxes on Turbotax that other night and that was the number I came up with. We are going to have an accountant do the real taxes, though, because there's all this complicated business stuff involved this year, so I will have to wait a bit. Still, I am currently spending in my mind. It's more fun this way because you can do it over and over.
So, what would you do with $5,000 that came out of the blue?

Date: 2006-01-30 04:38 am (UTC)That's a good question. I'm having a lot of stuff done to my house, so I'd probably put some of it towards that. I'd also put part of it towards the new computer I've been salivating over for months. Then, since I've had some money scares in the recent past, I'd put 1K of it in a savings account and force myself to forget it was there.
Of course, I'd take 10% of that refund and go do/buy something fun and vaguely irresponsible. I might go out to dinner at a restaurant I could never afford, get a video game console, treat myself to a shopping spree at Borders, get plane tickets to go visit some of the Buffistas, etc.

Finish paying off my car and credit card, and then buy a new couch and computer. It would be lovely. I'm probably getting about $300 back, which is nice, if not spectacular.
