Baby Name List
Feb. 14th, 2005 04:20 pmIt's been bugging me that we don't have a baby name figured out yet, so this is my attempt to be organized and at least list the names we have considered.
1. Lindsey
2. Daphne
3. Margaret
4. Abigail
5. Madeline
6. Lily
7. Emily
8. Elizabeth
It's also been suggested to me that given our last name (pronounced Iz-a-gary), a first name ending in an -a (like adriana) will sound better than a first name ending in an -y (like amy or mary)
I'm putting this here mainly to have a place to get it written down, but comments or suggestions are welcome.

Date: 2005-02-14 01:44 pm (UTC)Ooh, I like Madeline. And you're right that having it end in a -y sound may be bad, but then again...hey, Stephanie.
Madeline and Elizabeth are good. Elizabeth would be amusing, cause you could call her Liz, and then all kinds of hijinks would ensue.

Date: 2005-02-14 05:59 pm (UTC)I'm curious strictly as a language geek, and not because I have much of any substance to say, mind you....

Date: 2005-02-14 06:14 pm (UTC)Although from Honduras, Joe's family has been there for maybe 3 generations and before that the family was from the Basque region of Spain. I don't think Joe looks very "latino" - he is much more likely to be assumed to be Italian.
I speak Spanish and he speaks Spanish, but we rarely speak Spanish together. This mainly because I get easily embarrassed and Joe is completely fluent. We occasionally speak Portugese together (we both learned when we lived in Brazil) but mainly we use it as a way of communicating when we don't want other people to understand (or, today, my Valentine's message was in Portugese).
We've talked about Joe speaking to our daughter in Spanish so she learns it from an early age. We want her to be comfortable with the language so she feels comfortable with that side of her family. My main concern is that it might feel onerous to Joe to be switching back and forth, but for him it is much less work than it is for me.
