Help finding a phrase

Im looking for a positive way to describe a musician who isn't as famous as Madonna or even Ben Folds Five, bit who is successful enough that he supports himself and his family playing music, recording and performing. I had "up and coming" bit I don't like that.

Toy help

I'm thinking about getting one of those spinning light toys (where you put it in the middle of the room and it shines shapes on the walls) for my son but I'm not sure what they are called. Does anyone have any cool suggestions?
