Back in the USA

Today has been the Tuesday that never ends. We woke up in Tokyo, got breakfast at Starbucks, killed time at the hotel, took the bus to Narita, flew to Portland, watched The Italian Job on DVD, flew to Minneapolis/St. Paul and now I am sitting here waiting for the plane back to my parent’s house in Albuquerque. I estimate that my Tuesday will be at least 36 hours long.
Last night we had a great Teppenyaki dinner at the restaurant on the top floor of our hotel. The last time I ate at a Japanese steak house, it was in Columbus, Georgia and while the chef may have been talented, he was certainly limited by his ingredients. The same was not true at the restaurant last night. The food was fabulous – grilled filet mignon, bread, garlic rice, squash, peppers, miso soup, a few others things I’ve forgotten, and the best passion fruit custard I’ve ever tasted. The only thing that possibly was as good as the dinner was the restaurant environment and the view of Tokyo as we ate.
