I put 75 cents in the Coke machine just now and got out 8 cokes. Is it stealing if I take them? They are just sitting in the bottom of the machine. How weird!
How many times have you put money into a machine of some sort and had it just eat your cash, give you nothing, and refuse to return the cash? If you're a regular-type human, this is a sadly well-known phenomenon.
I know it has to me, and on the rare occasions that a machine burps out too much stuff for my cash instead of not enough or none at all, I consider it some sort of mechanical restoration of karmic balance and take the freebies in order to balance things out. If it gives me so much stuff the balance is in danger of tipping in the other direction, I take just what's fair and leave the extras as a present for the next person.
