Not So Empty House

Yesterday, I was really not looking forward to the empty house when I got home. So, I walk in my house yesterday and there is a 10 yr old boy there. Turns out he is the grandson of the neighbors and was hanging out with Tammy, our house/dog sitter. Anyway, I walked back home with him and met almost the entire family of my neighbors. It was a lot of fun. Also, I told them about the baby, which is always fun.
Then, last night, at about 7:45, my doorbell rings. It was Jack - the boy from before. He said they had bought sparklers on their way up from FL and were going to light them off. So, I went over and we all lit some sparklers. The dogs did not like those at all, but still had fun.
Then, this morning, at 6:59, my doorbell rang. I had told Jack he could come with me to walk the dogs around 7, although I didn't think he would be quite to punctual. I was still in bed. Luckily, I think kids are less perceptive about the "oops...I just woke her up" thing, so there was no awkwardness. We walked the dogs and then I made us hot chocolate. (It's actually cold here!) I put his hot chocolate in a cup with a ceramic frog on the bottom, which he thought was funny.
So, it turns out the house hasn't been as empty as I thought.
