House Hunting

As soon as I confirm that there are no work conflicts, I'm going to book a trip to Colorado to look for a place for us to live. We (actually Joe) have enough FF miles on Delta to get two free tickets and I just couldn't bear spending $800 on a ticket for 5 days to look for a house. There's no way Joe can take the time away from work at this point, so I'm going with the kids. (Frisco would be going no matter what because he's still nursing. Ellie - well, I could have tried to work her staying with Joe, but his job isn't really conducive to that and my mom would be really bummed if Ellie didn't come. So, taking both kids works best for everyone.)
Our tentative plan looks like this:
18 March - fly to Albuquerque. I'm trying to do it without a stroller but I'm not sure how to lug the carseats without one. Anyway, we arrive at about 10:30 PM meaning we don't get to my parents until about midnight. It's rough timing, but cheap.
19 March - rest and recuperate. My mom has parent teacher conferences that day and Friday so maybe she will just be at work for a few hours or not at all. I want to drive up to Colorado Springs late that afternoon, but I'm not sure if that will be too much. Ellie might stay with my parents at this point. I sort of want my mom to come with me so I have another adult to show the houses to but I'm not sure if she can leave. Hopefully, we will spend Thursday night with my friend Anne, although I haven't asked yet.
20 Mar - look at houses and lots in Monument. Joe really likes the idea of living in a tiny space while we build our house. I like that idea too but I'm not sure we are ready to live far enough out so that no one will care/object if we live in a tiny cabin for a while. I also have real concerns about driving time (for either Joe or myself) so I'll have to check that. Both of these issues mean that I haven't really picked even an are yet. I'm looking anywhere north of Baptist Road in Monument to south of C-470 in Denver. Probably spend the night at my anut Sue's house. Need to check on that too.
21 Mar - look for houses and lots in Castle Rock and Highlands Ranch. I'm not sure if I need two realtors - probably because there's nothing between Monument and Castle Rock and I doubt any realtor covers that entire area. I need to call the USAA Movers Advantage people again now that we are looking at Colorado.
22 Mar - drive back to New Mexico. Take one last look at any houses/lots I really like. (Note to self: take video camera for Joe)
23 Mar - hang out at parents' house. rest.
24 Mar - fly back. plane leaves at 6:30 which means leaving my parents ansolutely no later than 4am. Fun!
