I had a great time today. Oscar and I took Ellie to Old San Juan. We just walked around for several hours. We saw the old forts and fortifications. Then we walked along the city wall until we reached the San Juan Gate. After going through the gate, we walked along this beautiful path that runs between the wall of the city and the water. There were all sorts of huge hanging trees and really neat sculptures. (One thing I think San Juan does really well is they have tons of neat sculptures all over the city.) From there, it started pouring so we took a break inside Starbucks.

Ellie was so good in Starbucks. She played with her teddy grahams and drank orange juice. I think we were there for almost 45 minutes and she was perfect the entire time. We left Starbucks and it started raining again. We hung out in a door way for a while until the rain stopped. Around this time, Ellie fell asleep in her stroller. We went to see this chapel that I've always seen from the car but never been able to visit. There was a park next to the chapel and it was filled with pigeons. It was a little gross, but still neat. There were bronze baby and women's shoes at the foot of two of the benches. It really took a good eye to see them. That's what I mean about sculptures. You never know what you might see in San Juan.

We walked around for another hour or so - looking at the old buildings, windows, and courtyards. Eventually, we wound back to the road along the ocean and walked another half mile or so. We then headed back to the car. P came to pick up Oscar and Ellie and I headed home.

I feel bad that my parents came to visit and we didn't show them any of this stuff. It was a really cool day - just walking through old plazas and courtyards and down narrow streets and alleys. I guess we saved something for next time. I'm excited for the next time we have company so I can show people around. I'll post pictures on Flickr in a little bit.
