First Childbirth Class
Mar. 15th, 2005 06:58 amThe class was held at the house of the teacher, L. There were two other couples there. They all looked mid to late 20s. One woman is 28 weeks pregnant and the other is 18. They all were very nice, although I definitely felt that Joe and I are more "established". Although I don't know for sure, I would guess that Joe and I have been married the longest, etc. I felt that I stood out a bit too because I was alone. My friend who is going to go with me was very sick this weekend, so she didn't come.
The teacher made me laugh. She people who take her class usually fall into three groups - more "natural" or "organic" people, people who wants a medical free birth due to their religion, and people who like to be in control. I almost laughed out loud because while the first 2 were interesting to me, I so clearly fit in the third group.
Anyway, in the class, we talked mostly about a series of exercises that will help with labor and why they will help. We also practiced a relaxation exercise and talked about ways people deal with pain. Although I've missed Joe a lot, this was the first time that I felt really sad that he weren't there with me. Everyone else had little funny moments and got to practice the exercises together. I know I will be fine, but I would have been even better if he had been there.
The class was lots of fun and I'm looking forward to the next one. I'm supposed to bring a snack and I really hope I don't forget.
On a different topic, last night I got the best night of sleep I've had in weeks. I changed the bed last night and I hadn't put the big body pillow back on the bed. Instead, I used a regular pillow between my knees. It seemed to be a bit thicker than the body pillow which really helped my hips. Then, Toby decided to sleep with his butt pushed up against my back. Not only was he nice and warm, but he was the greatest support I've had in weeks. I only got up once in the night and I didn't have any hip achiness or have my arms fall asleep. I'm going to try to get Toby to sleep that close to me all the time. He likes cuddling like that so it might work.
