Remember that job that I applied for? The one that there was no way I could get because I missed the deadline but everyone convinced me to send in my packet anyway, just in case?

Well, they just called and want to set up a phone interview.

I am so not ready for this. On so many levels.

Thanks. Didn't you just do some interviews lately? Any tips for me? It's been about 5 years since I had an interview and the last one was for a job I was almost guaranteed to get.

I had a phone interview a couple of weeks ago. It turned out that the person interviewing me wanted me to work for 10K less than I'm making now, which just wasn't going to happen.

One thing that I noticed was that the interviewer knew my resume really well. More so than the folks at face-to-face interviews--I suspect she had it right in front of her. So it might be good to have a copy of whatever you sent to the employer handy, especially if you've been sending out different versions of things. I've been sending out education and publishing versions of my resume, and the interview was for a university publishing job, which made me wonder just what I'd sent the interviewer.

Hope this helps.
