Last minute extension for 10th Mountain

I know people who were actually involved in this. Some soldiers were on a plane, had actually left Afghanistan, and were refueling in Germany when they got the word. When the plane took off again, they told the soldiers that they were returning to Afghanistan instead of going home to their families. Other soldiers, the ones who actually made it home, were given 72 hours with their families and then told to report back to get on a plane and head back to Afghanistan.

The 10th Mountain has been deployed almost constantly since 2001, maybe earlier. This sort of thing makes me so angry. And really really glad we are in PR now and no longer at Ft. Bragg.

We have another friend who is currently with the 3rd ID. He was in Iraq the first time Joe was there (they were together) and he was also gone about when Joe was gone the second time. His wife, my friend, had a baby boy a few days after Ellie was born. She just had her second baby a few week ago. They were headed for the Pentagon when he got word that he had to stay where he is at and deploy again, although maybe not for an entire year this time.
