Attorney (i.e. someone who does not work in our office): You  look like you've gained some weight.

Me: Well, hopefully all in one place (while patting stomach).

Attorney: Oh, you are pregnant?

WTF?  Who tells someone they look like they've gained weight when you hardly know them?  Or even when you do.

One of mr. flea's colleagues from his master's degree saw him at a conference some 5 years later and the first thing he said was, "You've gained weight!" But he is a Chinese graduate student in engineering, truly fulfilling the twin stereotypes of not great English and worse social skills.

We have made this into a joke around the house. But mr. flea still winces a bit.
